Meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m.  Those present were Ellen Schomberg, Wendy Harper,
Linda Pluss, Sydney Stern, Anita Schrumpf, Joann Marshall, Katie Corbett, and Kay Baker.

President Ellen Schomberg has renewed our post office box for the coming year and will give bill to the treasurer.  At this time she extended a welcome to her new Board.  Minutes from the last meeting on June 4, 2007 were read.  They were passed with no additions or corrections.   The treasurer reported an audit had been completed by the audit committee. The committee was Julie Agnew, Pat Corless and Anita Schrumpf.  It was for the year 2006-2007. A budget for 2007-2008 will be available by the next board meeting.  If the Board passes the budget presented at that time, it will then be presented at the October General Meeting for acceptance by general membership.

Membership Co-Vice Presidents Katie Corbett and Joann Marshall explained the coming year’s planned programs.  Questions were discussed on upcoming programs.  February Mini-Luncheons were changed to the first Saturday and second Saturday of February.  Other items discussed were to be investigated and the co-chairs will report back at a latter date.  Linda Pluss moved to charge a minimum of $3.00 at each General Meeting to offset the cost of the room rent and food.. Anita Schrumpf seconded the motion and it passed with no nays or abstentions.  A motion was made to donate $25.00 to The Women’s Treble Choir Ensemble entertaining us for our December Meeting.  This motion was made by Wendy Harper and seconded by Joann Marshall.  It passed by unanimous vote of the Board.

Membership Vice-President Wendy Harper presented a report on the Membership Tea she is chairing for the September Meeting.  Members are bringing food and drink as a donation or for the cost of the ingredients.  She went over the list of people bringing the food.  Paula Sour will open her home to this membership event and will furnish the coffee.  Linda Pluss has written a skit to be presented as entertainment and several members will assist her in this.  President Ellen Schomberg went over the agenda for the Tea.  Sydney Stern suggested giving new members or prospective members a different colored nametag so members can better identify these people and make them feel welcome.  A question was raised by Katie Corbett regarding more information to be added to the information sheet given out at the tea.

Newsletter- President Ellen Schomberg announced all articles must be in to the Newsletter Editor by the fifteenth of each month in order to meet the deadline for publishing.

Publicity- Katie Corbett will do publicity for the September and October Meetings.  Then Bonnie Stone will assume responsibility for publicity.  President Ellen Schomberg will contact Maray Stowell, Chairman of the Wine and Food Festival, to have her start planning so that event can get some early publicity.

Gourmet Group- Food from Guam will be featured in an upcoming dinner in October.  Dorine Foster-Selleck is the Chairman if this Interest Group.

Teck Trek- Connie Harney and Ellen Schomberg will co-chair this activity this coming year.  Connie has made a listing of tasks necessary to support this program.  A short job description is included.  We will ask members to volunteer for these tasks so more people are involved and the event can continue.

Web-Master- Sydney Stern, our web-master, was asked to put our minutes for board meeting and general meetings onto our site.  The newsletter will also be posted on site.

WORD-AV (Write Often-Read Daily) was represented by Anita Schrumpf.  A discussion of upcoming events and the results of the vote for new officers was on the agenda.  Next meeting will be September 17th at the community room, Antelope Valley Mall.  This group is a coalition of groups in the valley involved in and concerned about literacy.   AAUW AV Branch is a member of this umbrella group.  Anita Schrumpf and Kay Baker are representing our Branch.

New Business-   President Ellen Schomberg appointed Kay Baker as chairman of the nominating committee.  She also appointed Sara Franzen   to be on the committee.  A third person must be put forward and voted on from the general membership.  This will be done at the September meeting.

A suggestion was made to investigate new ideas for social fundraisers.  Kay Baker made a motion to set up a committee of three to investigate this and possible venues for such events.  Anita Schrumpf seconded this motion and it passed unanimously.  Sydney Stern and Linda Pluss volunteered  to be on the committee.   President Ellen Schomberg will appoint a third member.

There was no Old Business.

Meeting dates for LACIC (Los Angeles County Inner Council) are as follows:  October 23, November 26, January 28, March 24 and May 31.    These are the meetings of the officers of all Branches within the LA County  District.   Any members wishing to attend these meetings must notify President Ellen Schomberg before these dates.

The Board discussed setting a monthly date for our meetings.  It was suggested we return to the first Monday of each month.  All agreed this would work for them. Where to meet will be decided each month.   Sydney Stern volunteered for the October 1 meeting.  It will be at 7:00 pm.

Motion to adjourn by Linda Pluss.  8:50 pm
